Brian D. Obergfell

Mr. Obergfell, Chairman of the firm, practices primarily in the firm’s securities, real estate, and banking and finance groups.

Mr. Obergfell’s securities work focuses on cross-border corporate finance, and includes managing the firm’s depositary receipts practice.  He represents depositary banks in connection with securities offerings using depositary receipt structures.  He has extensive experience in transactions involving American depositary receipts (ADRs) and global depositary receipts (GDRs).

Mr. Obergfell’s real estate practice includes representing major financial institutions in all aspects of commercial real estate financing, including commercial mortgage loan origination and securitization, construction loans, syndicated lending facilities, revolving credit lines, and loan defeasances.  He also represents landlords in the acquisition, financing and leasing of office, retail and multi-family properties.

Additionally, Mr. Obergfell leads the firm’s real estate tax certiorari practice, in which he represents institutional owners in the annual protest of their New York City real property tax assessment.  He has extensive experience reducing the tax liability of all property types, including special use properties.
